Operation Safer Streets produces 77 arrests

Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, resulted in 77 arrests involving four felonies, 76 misdemeanors and 21 outstanding warrants.  Seized were 3.2 grams of marijuana and four grams of cocaine.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the seven precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, five supervisors, 18 patrol officers and three canine officers.   Areas targeted were Edgehill Avenue, Trimble Bottoms, the J.C. Napier public housing development, Gallatin Pike, Dickerson Pike, and Ellington Parkway.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives, seven supervisors, 28 patrol officers, one Criminal Investigations Division (CID) detective and three canine officers.  Areas targeted were Gallatin Pike, Due West Avenue, Rio Vista Drive at Anderson Lane, Maple Street, Chapel and Scott Avenues, North 2nd Street, the James Cayce public housing development, downtown Nashville, and Porter Avenue.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives, three supervisors, one CID detective and two patrol officers.  Areas targeted were Madison, Linbar Drive, Wallace Road, Harding Place, and Tampa Drive.

So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 362 arrests on 27 felony charges and 357 misdemeanor charges, one gun seizure, the service of 122 outstanding warrants, 32 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge and 1,716 vehicle stops in areas with a gang presence.
