Football spring practice on campus comes to a close this Saturday when the Commodores stage their annual Black & Gold Spring Game in Vanderbilt Stadium.
The spring game, scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. CT, is free to the public and will be followed by a postgame fireworks display. Gate 2 at Vanderbilt Stadium opens at 5 p.m., with the first 1,000 fans receiving a commemorative 2012 football poster.
The football game will part of a busy sports weekend on the Vanderbilt campus. The Commodores also host Auburn in an important three-game baseball series Friday-Sunday. Tim Corbin's squad plays the visiting Tigers on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. Tickets remain available to all three Southeastern Conference games.
The Commodores are scheduled to practice Tuesday and Thursday this week. Two local radio shows, 102.5 The Game's Sports Revolution and WNSR AM-560's Thom Abraham Show, will broadcast live from the practice on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. All of the practices are open to the public.
Surface lots across Natchez Trace from the John Rich Practice Facility and Vanderbilt Track & Field Complex will open for tailgating all afternoon on Saturday. A condensed version of Vandyville, featuring free activities for kids, will open Saturday at 3 p.m. Star Walk, featuring the football team walking from McGugin Athletic Center to Vanderbilt Stadium, will take place at 4:50 p.m. Note: Due to construction, Star Walk will originate from the west side of the McGugin Center near Natchez Trace.
The spring game also will be televised on taped delay across the South on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS). The game will air on Sunday, April 15 at 5 p.m., CT. It is also shown live online at espn3.com, but will be blacked out throughout the CSS footprint. Matt Stewart will handle the play-by-play duties, while former Commodore Corey Chavous will serve as the analyst.

A short stack has three pancakes and is quite filling (I took it upon myself to test this freebie, ahem, for research.) You can get the free pancakes between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Tuesday. In exchange, IHOP asks that you leave a donation for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Last year, IHOP guests raised more than $2.1 million. This year the goal is to raise $2.3 million. Since the charity freebie began in 2006, IHOP has given away more than 10.1 million pancakes!
As a fun twist, you can set up a reminder call about free pancake day from a celebrity. Your celebrity wake up call options include NFL Hall of Famer Steve Young, 2011 Miss America Teresa Scanlan, Children's Miracle Network co-founder Marie Osmond, Dukes of Hazzard and Smallville star John Schneider, or David Archuleta of American Idol.
Caveats: One free short stack of free pancakes per guest. Dine in only at participating restaurants. Cannot be combined with any other offer or coupon.

1. OpenOffice.org provides everything most people need in an office productivity suite. It is stable, reliable, and robust, built up over twenty years' development. Unlike its major competitor, it was designed from the start as a single piece of software, which makes for higher quality software and a more consistent user experience. It is actively developed, with several releases every year. The main components of the OpenOffice.org Suite are the Writer wordprocessor; the Calc spreadsheet; Impress for presentations; Draw for graphics; and the Base database.
2. OpenOffice.org is both easy to use and easy to migrate to, for both experienced and beginners alike. It has a familiar user interface, and is able to read and write the vast majority of legacy file formats (including common Microsoft Office formats). It is supported in over seventy languages, with active support both Community based (free) and from commercial organisations.
3. OpenOffice.org is released under an open-source licence (the LGPL), which means it may be used free of any licence fees, for any purpose: private, governmental, commercial, etc. Once acquired (either as a free download or as a CD) it may be installed on an unlimited number of computers, and may be copied and distributed without restriction. OpenOffice.org supports extensions, allowing users to add on extra functions easily from an extensions repository. This is a key differentiator from the competition.
